  • Secretary Kerry Lays Wreath at Grave of Former Polish PM Tadeusz Mazowiecki

    U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Warsaw on Monday night and proceeded directly to the gravesite of former Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki, to lay a wreath and pay his respects. Mazowiecki, Eastern Europe’s first post-communist Prime Minister, died last week at age 86. Secretary Kerry was accompanied at the cemetery by U.S. Ambassador to Poland Stephen Mull, and Mr. Michal Mazowiecki, son of the late Prime Minister. The Secretary walked along candlelit paths of Laski Cemetery, located in a beautiful pine forest on the edge of Warsaw. The cemetery was established in the 1920s along with the Society for the Care of the Blind, and is run by the nuns of the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross.
